A suburb of Sioux Falls, Tea is a quaint community nestled in Lincoln County. With a total area of 1.69 square miles and a population of 3,806, it has a population density of 2,252.1 inhabitants per square mile.
Plotted in 1900 and incorporated in 1906, this town received its name from a community vote. The townspeople all came together to think of 10 names. Since the community was primarily German, most of the residents requested a break for afternoon tea. Because of this, Tea was thrown into consideration as the new name and ended up beating out all other candidates.
Today, Tea offers much to do for people of all ages. Its three recreational areas, the Tea Athletic Complex, Howling Ridge Park and Prairie Trails Park, are all great spaces for physical activity and exercise. Additionally, the city holds its annual Teapot Days at the end of each June. This event features carnival rides, fireworks, delicious food, live music, beautiful art shows and a brilliant parade.
